What If You’re Closer Than You Think?

The middle part of the climb is always the most difficult.
The middle part of the climb is always the most difficult.

The Power of Perspective in Achieving Your Goals

When you’re working toward a big goal, it’s easy to feel like you're miles away from where you want to be. Progress can feel slow. Setbacks can feel like signs you're not meant for it. And sometimes, it’s tempting to wonder if you’re even moving at all.

But here’s the thing most people don’t realize - you're often a lot closer than you think.

The distance between where you are and where you want to be isn’t always about skill, luck, or hard work.Sometimes, it’s simply about perspective.

When we measure success only by the outcome — the new role, the launched business, the breakthrough moment — we miss the quieter wins happening along the way.

Why Don't We See Our Progress?

It’s not your fault that you don’t always recognize how far you’ve come. Our brains are wired to underestimate progress.

Here’s why:

  • Negativity bias: We focus more on what’s wrong than what’s right — a survival instinct that doesn’t serve growth.

  • Familiarity dulls achievement: What once felt impossible quickly becomes your new normal.

  • Progress is nonlinear: Real growth doesn’t happen in straight lines — it’s messy, slow, and full of plateaus.

  • The goalposts keep moving: As soon as we hit one milestone, we often set another, barely pausing to celebrate.

  • Comparison traps us: We judge ourselves against others’ highlight reels instead of our own real, hard-won progress.

In short:Progress often feels invisible while it’s happening. But that doesn’t make it any less real.

If You’re Feeling Stuck Right Now…

Shift your lens.Instead of asking, “Why am I not there yet?” — try asking:

  • What have I learned that I didn’t know six months ago?

  • If my past self could see me now, what would they be proud of?

You might find that you’re not lost — you're just in the middle of the climb.

Keep going. You’re closer than you think.
